Top
Although a new top had been installed on the 1941 Buick Convertible Sedan, the frame was not properly aligned. As a result, the windows did not fit and the top could not be lowered. Also, the top frame was not properly finished nor assembled with all the correct fastener assemblies. The rear curtain was not properly fabricated and other aspects of the replacement top were not authentic – the binding was incorrect and "hidem" had been substituted for chrome moldings. Therefore, the top was removed to permit rebuilding, aligning, and refinishing the frame.
It was discovered that the bows were bent which created the alignment and operation problems. Also, the operating linkage on each side, which had been removed for plating, was not properly assembled. After correcting all these problems, the top bows were painted the correct beige color, properly re-assembled with the correct fasteners, and aligned. Then, a new correctly-fabricated rear window was installed, followed by headliner, padding and strengthening straps. On top of these, a correct for 1941 Buick convertible tan top with red piping to match the interior was installed along with chrome moldings at the front and rear and over the bow at the top of the window.
The final steps included properly fitting a new boot and fabricating a top hold down strap. Bags to protect the side window dividers when removed were also fabricated.
